Family Law and Education Advocacy

Family Law Representation

Family Law services for when you are going through a divorce/legal separation; dealing with a parenting plan or child support order; wanting a prenuptial, post-nuptial or cohabitation agreement; needing help with family law forms in an uncontested divorce or other family law matter; or simply wanting to consult with an attorney to review your rights or options when it comes to family or domestic relations matters (whether or not you are headed to the courtroom).

Education Advocacy

Advocacy and support for your child’s education. Assistance and advocacy navigating the special education system when your child is being assessed for special education (including highly capable/gifted) services; understanding your child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan; and advocating generally for your child’s meaningful progress in the classroom.

Family Law Services

Family law services that are targeted to just what you need. I offer full representation of clients on a case-by-case basis, but the bulk of my practice is limited practice representation. This allows you to hire me for just what you need and creates a more affordable and accessible model for clients to be able to obtain legal counsel when they are going through a family law matter.

See the Family Law page for more details on the services that I provide or reach out to schedule a consult.

Parenting Plans and Child Support Orders. If you have children and are going through a divorce or legal separation, the most important thing is that you have a really good Parenting Plan and a well-written Child Support Order. Not everyone needs or can afford full-on legal representation in a divorce, but they do need a good Parenting Plan, which is why you can hire me just for that.

Other Family Law Services. I also offer affordable options for uncontested divorces, general consultation, assistance with court forms, prenuptial, postnuptial and cohabitation agreements, and separation contracts or property settlement agreements.

Education and Special Education Advocacy

Navigating Evaluations. I help families understand the process of having their child assessed for special education services in school, whether those services are for extra support through the school’s special education program, or for a “highly capable” or gifted program.

Understanding your child’s IEP (individualized Education Plan) or 504 Plan. I advise families so that they better understand the meaning of their child’s IEP or 504 Plan and how it can or should be carried out in the classroom. I offer expertise in both the legal side of things as well as how an IEP might look like in action in the classroom to promote your child’s meaningful progress at school.

See the Education page for more details on the services that I provide or reach out to schedule a consult.

Supporting Families at IEP meetings, teacher conferences and other school meetings. I advocate for families in IEP/504 Plan meetings, teacher conferences, meetings with the principal, and other school meetings. I make sure that the right questions are asked, offer suggestions for how to better support a student, and make sure that the family’s concerns are heard and addressed.

Advocating for and supporting families when they have other specific or general concerns related to their child’s education, including academic progress, emotional/social well-being, behavior, bullying, school discipline, and other concerns related to their child’s success in the classroom.

Client Reviews

I worked with Caitlin on some post-dissolution issues that had to be
resolved quickly. I had my doubts about being able to resolve the matter
without going to mediation or arbitration, but Caitlin was able to get
it done quickly with a mixture of thoughtfulness and unfailing civility,
but also firmness. I really admire her ability to keep her calm and
focus even when the other party is being frustrating–her approach is
ethical, classy, and above all effective.

Caitlin represented me in a recent divorce that was initially amicable, but soured during the process. She was exceptional in communicating, strategizing, setting expectations, timeliness, empathetic, the list goes on. I found her to be very professional in her approach and communication with the other party’s attorney, even when they tried to employ some unsavory tactics…. The whole team was just fantastic and in the end we settled and most importantly maintained the custody we sought out in the beginning. Couldn’t have been happier to have gone with Caitlin and her firm through a difficult process.

Caitlin Fellows did an excellent job representing me during my recent divorce. Very thorough and timely in all areas from initial client signup to the final divorce decree. I appreciated her knowledge of the law, and her steadfast drive to ensure fairness throughout the process.

Ex and I had issues regarding wording in the parenting plan and the lawyer I’d hired when initially divorcing was booked. Ms. Fellows was suggested to me and she was an absolute joy to work with. She is super prompt and well organized when meeting or responding to emails. I really appreciated her experience and advice. She suggested changes to the plan that wouldn’t have occurred to me but will keep me from needing to return to mediation again and again. I highly recommend her and intend to hire her again if the need should arise.
